(Kagoshima, Japan) This tea comes from the island of Tanegashima, located in southern Japan; it is one of the first Japanese teas produced of the year. From the first spring harvest, this reserve grade Shincha Chumushi is made of tea leaves from the unique Shuntarou cultivar of the island. One of the ancestors of this cultivar is the Assam tea tree (India). It was developed to offer a very fresh and spring-like tasting tea, harvested 2 weeks before the average of other cultivars.
On the palate, it starts with fresh floral and herbaceous notes, umami, then evolves towards citrus notes, reminiscent of grapefruit among others, to leave a sweet touch on the finish. It is very refreshing and interesting. A grand cru!
