(Shizuoka, Japan) This premium black tea, called Wakoucha, is highly prized and rare in Japan. From the first spring harvest, it comes from Shizuoka Prefecture. It was made from the rare cultivar Tsuyuhikari; meaning "light of dew," to symbolize the success of its creation and its potential, as well as the hope producers have for it. It is the result of the painstaking cross-breeding between the Asatsuyu and shizu-7132 cultivars by the Tea Research Institute of Shizuoka Prefecture in 1970.
When steeped, its reddish liquor offers unique notes of cocoa, date, malt, molasses, sweet potato, and a hint of lily of the valley. This tea compares without hesitation to grand English and Chinese crus – a must-try!
