(Kagoshima, Japan) This tea from Chiran, Kagoshima Prefecture, comes from the first spring harvest. JAS certified, it is made from the Yutakamidori cultivar. This red-black tea, called Wakoucha, of reserve grade, is highly prized in Japan.
When infused, its burgundy liquor offers a floral bouquet reminiscent of lily of the valley and orchids, grapes, and fresh cream. It leaves a smooth and sweet finish on the palate, without any astringency. This tea can easily be compared to the great English and Chinese vintages - a must-try!
