The Masters Series
Tamamitsu (玉光) refers to the renowned lineage of master artisans and the Gyokko Toen brand, based in Tokoname, Japan, one of the country's six ancient pottery towns. Run by the Umehara family, this pottery is world-renowned for its exceptional handmade clay teapots, known as kyusu. Key information about Tamamitsu pottery: The artisans: The Umehara family, notably the late Harutaka Umehara (certified traditional artisan) and his son Hirotaka Umehara, craft these pieces. Clay and characteristics: Tamamitsu teapots are generally unglazed and made from iron-rich clays. The reaction of the iron with the tannins in the tea softens the astringency and enhances the flavor.
